Still dreaming

Joshua Redman, one of the most brilliant improvisers of the 21st century, pays tribute to Ornette Coleman and Redman’s own father, Dewey Redman, who was Coleman’s saxophonist in the early 1970s. When during that same decade Coleman founded the double electric quartet Prime Time, Dewey established the avant-garde quartet Old and New Dreams to perform his own music, working with three of Coleman’s pupils – Don Cherry, Charlie Haden and Eddie Blackwell. Still dreaming is a tribute to the free inspiration and imaginative spirit of Redman’s father and Coleman, and includes six new quartet themes, together with one by Coleman (Comme il faut) and one by Charlie Haden (Playing).
