“Lebenslicht” is a “film concert” which follows three generations of men, a grandfather, his son and his grandson. The grandfather reflects on the last stages of his life, his son struggles with his relationship, the boy suffers and dreams. There are no answers. Only the music of Bach can relieve the pain. Philippe Herreweghe and his ensemble perform a selection of choruses, arias and instrumental sinfonias from some of Bach’s most beautiful cantatas, passions and masses.
