An overview of Catalan music of the Renaissance with a selection of works by the main composers of the 16th century, an outstanding period for music in the country. Works ranging from the instrumental dance pieces composed by Lluís de Milà for Ferdinand of Aragon’s court in Valencia, to the Italian madrigals by Mateu Fletxa the Younger, which display the influence of Italian tradition. Also included is a Catalan language madrigal, in which Joan Brudieu took his inspiration from the poet Ausiàs March, and the Iberian genre of the Ensalada, of which Mateu Fletxa the Elder was the maximum exponent.
