PROGRAMME

Antoni Soler: Vísperas comunes / Magnificat en segundo tono / Benedicamus Domino  Domenico Scarlatti: Salve Regina for soprano and alto / Stabat Mater

Antoni Soler was born in Olot, and is the most international of 18th century Spanish composers. He is best known for his famous harpsichord sonatas and chamber music, but also composed a large number of vocal works during the three decades he spent at the monastery of El Escorial. In the first part of this concert, dedicated to the memory of Ernest Lluch, La Grande Chapelle will sing works by Soler, some of which are recent rediscoveries, while the second part will consist of music by Domenico Scarlatti, who spent time as a musician of the Spanish court and was one of Soler’s teachers. We will hear Scarlatti’s brief Salve Regina for soprano and alto, and his magnificent, profound Stabat Mater.
