PROGRAMME

Franz Joseph Haydn: Quartet in B Minor, Op. 33 No. 1 / Felix Mendelssohn: Quartet No. 6 in F Minor, Op. 80

Most of the great composers throughout history have written one or several works for string quartet. Thanks to its greater flexibility with respect to the orchestra and the fact that it is the ideal form of conversation between four voices, this genre has become an ideal means of expression over the centuries. Moreover, the ease of access for amateur musicians has only increased the popularity of the format. The main aim of this proposal is to take advantage of the pre-eminence of the quartet as a musical genre to take the listener on a journey through two periods in the history of music: Classicism with Haydn and Romanticism with Mendelssohn. At the same time, the aim is to show the evolution of writing and language for string quartet during a short period in the history of music. The Quartet Ànima is a group of young performers born in 2021 within the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands that has been awarded the first edition of the La Flama 2023 prize, awarded by Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya with the collaboration of the Vic International Quartet Academy.
