Young pianist Denis Kozhukhin's life changed when in 2010, at the age of 23, he won the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition in Brussels and was catapulted into the world of international touring. Today, he is one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation, for his overwhelming technique and powerful articulation at the service of music, in this refined recital of works by Franz Liszt and György LigetI with which he explores the darkness of hell and the brightness of heaven. The concert begins with La lugubre gondola, a work written by Liszt when he paid a visit to his son-in-law, Richard Wagner, in Venice in anticipation of his death, which occurred two months later. The following works are entitled ‘Tomb, Disaster, Sinister’, but everything begins to change with the virtuoso study of Ligeti to finally find redemption with a masterpiece by Liszt, the Sonata in B Minor
