In 1990 the organist and harpsichordist Masaaki Suzuki created the Bach Collegium Japan to introduce the Japanese public to performances of Baroque music on period instruments. Almost 35 years later, the Bach Collegium Japan is one of the most acclaimed orchestras specialising in Bach's music. It presents itself for the first time at the Torroella de Montgrí Festival with a monograph of Bach's religious cantatas, the complete works of which it recorded between 1995 and 2013, and which make up half of the orchestra's discography, comprising more than a hundred discs.
