Xavi Torres, piano | Reinier Elizarde, double bass | Andreu Pitarch, drums
A virtuoso with exquisite taste, the Tarragona-born Xavi Torres is one of the great pianists of his generation. Last year, he published Quarantena Songs (Dox Records), which won the Enderrock award for the best album of the year, conceived during the pandemic lockdown. For one month, Torres wrote, "as if it was an exercise", he explains, one piece every day. The goal pursued by that "exercise" was to keep the flame of energy and creativity alight. The result is a music connected to the reality of the time "and its struggles", he adds, "but which speaks for itself". Quarantena Songs features a series of themes that express different feelings: a journey from sadness to hope, from nostalgia to gratitude. He will be presenting the album during 2024, at different venues in Europe, from the Bimhuis in Amsterdam to the Jazzahead in Bremen and various locations in Spain. He is accompanied by two great musicians: Reinier Elizarde El Negrón and Andreu Pitarch.
