The Cuban saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera has won 14 Grammys and is a living legend of Latin jazz. This year he celebrates his 70th birthday with an international tour, accompanied by the quartet of pianist Pepe Rivero. D'Rivera received classical training at the Havana Conservatoire, and in 1973 with pianist Chucho Valdés and seven other artists founded the group Irakere, an explosive combination of jazz, rock, classical and traditional Cuban music which revolutionised the musical world of the island and caused a sensation at the main jazz festivals around the world. With more than 30 solo discs and more than sixty years performing on the stage, Paquito D'Rivera maintains a highly active artistic life throughout the world.
