The Jan Domènech Quintet is a personal project of the pianist Jan Domènech, formed in 2020 with the collaboration of four musicians who have long excelled in their respective fields. The Magical Forest Tour is a work that is part of the current European jazz scene, inspired by the production of musicians like Brian Blade, Brad Mehldau or Aaron Parks, without losing originality and the group’s personal touch. The pieces narrate a personal adventure in a magical forest, which Jan Domènech created with the intention of recovering the freedom lost during the lockdown and exploring what it is that makes us free, which is art and, in his case, music. Each piece represents a specific place or moment in this journey. His style is more reminiscent of modern jazz, whose roots lie in traditional jazz, pop and impressionist classical music of the early 20th century, especially the harmonies and instrumentations of Maurice Ravel. That is why we can find pieces within the repertoire that are quite different from each other, but without losing the personal touch that links them together, endowing them with coherence and context.
