Antonio Soler: Sonata in D minor No. 117 / Astor Piazzolla: Libertango / Tomás Ocaña: La pieza que compuse mientras no pude dormir porque mi madre no paraba de roncar / Gorka Hermosa: Anantango / Sergey Voitenko: Revelation / John Zorn: Roadrunner / Isaac Albéniz: “Aragón”, from the Suite Española, Op. 47
With this concert, Marta Cubas, winner of the 99th (2021) Juventudes Musicales de España Competition for instruments with no specific category, presents works that illustrate some of the musical styles that mark different historical periods, embarking on a journey that starts in Naples around 1700 and ends in New York in the 21st century, ranging from baroque to contemporary music. Along the way, we see the changes in composition techniques and how, as the years go by, a need to innovate is created using the instruments’ sound resources.
