Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most influential composers in the history of music, starting with his sons and Mozart and continuing until the present day, he has left his mark on many composers. But who were Bach's references? The Dane Dietrich Buxtehude, considered one of the best organists and composers of his time, was greatly admired by Bach, who in 1705, when he was 20 years old, moved from Arnstadt, where he was a chapel master, to Lübeck, where Buxtehude had been the organist and composer at St. Mary's Church since 1668, just to meet him. Bach had asked for four weeks' leave to see Buxtehude, but he ended up remaining in Lübeck for three months.
