Mayumi Sargent and Panos Charalampidis, violins | Eura Fortuny, viola | Antigoni Seferli, cello
Frank Bridge: 3 Idylls / Rebecca Clarke: Poem / Benjamin Britten: String Quartet No. 2, Op. 36
PuraCorda is a string quartet formed in 2020 on the initiative of the Majorcan violinist Mayumi Sargent and the Greek cellist Antigoni Seferli while they were studying for a specialisation in historical music at the Amsterdam Conservatory. PuraCorda has specialised in the historical interpretation of the repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries, a new and exciting territory that very few groups have explored with gut strings. They are interested in unknown repertoires and forgotten composers and always include works written by women in their programmes, as in this concert, which reviews the renaissance of British music in the early 20th century with works by Frank Bridge, Rebecca Clarke and Benjamin Britten. PuraCorda are on a musical residence in Torroella as part of the EEEmerging+ programme, which also includes the Torroella Festival.
