Quintet for violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano in A Major, "The Trout", D667
Franz Schubert was the first modern composer in the current sense of the term. He was the first to try to make a living from music and the first composer to be self-employed. 1816 was a decisive year in this transformation and especially hard for Schubert, with changes that had a significant impact on his life. The concert program includes a work written during this period, the extraordinary and rightly famous quintet "The Trout", dated 1818.
