PROGRAMME

G. F. Händel: Dixit Dominus, HWV 232 / Jan Dismas Zelenka: Missa Omnium Sanctorum, ZWV 21

Jan Dismas Zelenka’s Baroque music has not enjoyed the posthumous fame of some of his contemporaries, such as Bach or Händel. But musicologists, who started to discover and study his compositions in the 1970s, now agree that this Bohemian composer’s work is among the very best of the Baroque, with an exceptional compositional technique, inventive melodies, a profound mastery of counterpoint and a unique style that sets him apart from most composers of his time. The Torroella Festival will close with the acclaimed Baroque orchestra Collegium 1704 and the Collegium Vocale 1704, who will perform the Missa Omnium Sanctorum, one of Zelenka’s crowning works, jointly with another masterpiece, Händel’s Dixit Dominus.
