Festeggiando Mancini
Francesco Mancini: Overture of the opera Hydaspes / Concerto no. 10 in B flat major for flute and strings / Trio sonata in G major / Concerto no. 6 in D minor for flute and strings / Toccata di cembalo per studio / Overture of the opera Trajano / Concerto no. 14 in G minor for flute and strings
In 2022, we commemorate the 350th birth anniversary of the Neapolitan composer Francesco Mancini. He was the organist of the Cappella Reale at the Court of the Spanish viceroy in Naples and maestro di cappella on Alessandro Scarlatti’s death in 1725. Mancini was a prolific composer: he wrote about 30 operas, serenatas, many vocal religious works and instrumental pieces. Of his total output, 12 sonatas and 12 concertos for recorder, and 2 toccatas for harpsichord stand out in particular. Rescued from oblivion by La Ritatara, Mancini’s work is impassioned and colourful, and his music was very popular during the composer’s lifetime.
