Dvorák: Waltzes, Op. 54, nos. 1 and 2 / Slavonic Danses, Op. 46 / Suk: Meditation on the old Bohemian chorale “St Wenceslas”, Op. 35a / Janácek: Suite for string orchestra, JW VI/2
Returning to the Torroella Festival, where they performed for the first time in 1998, the ensemble of chamber soloists of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra bring us a delightful programme of music by two of the most important Czech composers – Dvorák, with the popular Slavonic Dances that brought him to fame, and Janácek, with his charming Suite for String Orchestra. The programme is completed with a work by Dvorák’s highly gifted son-in-law, Josef Suk – his beautiful Meditation on the old Bohemian chorale “Saint Wenceslas”, written in 1914 as a clandestine national anthem for the Czech people, then under Austrian rule.
