About this event

The Cobbett Ensemble was founded in January, 2017 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The quartet owes its name to the impresario and amateur musician, Walter Willson Cobbett (1847-1937), who endowed a competition for short chamber works of the fantasia genre. Cobbett came to inspire a generation of composers to write their Fantasias, a musical form which has been used for the majority of 20th century works for oboe quartet.
