The Baroque is one of the longest, most productive, most revolutionary and most influential periods in the history of music. It had its beginnings in 1600 with the birth of opera and lasted until the middle of the 18th century. It was a period in which emotion took precedence over reason, and the rhythm of the text dictated the melody when setting poetry to music. The Sospir Ensemble will take us on a fascinating journey around the vocal music of the early Baroque, when two manners of composing shared the stage – the traditional polyphonic genre of the madrigal and the new style of writing for accompanied solo voice.
