About this event

The members of the Ember Quartet come from both sides of the Atlantic. They have all completed post-graduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. For their concert at the Fringe Festival Torroella-l'Estartit, they have chosen two programmes of works related to their respective nations. The German violinist, Franziska Deschner, hails from the Austro-German tradition that includes the classical and Romantic quartets by Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert. For the Scottish cellist, Molly McWhirter, and the American violinist, Callie Brennan, there is the Opus California quartet by Scottish composer Sally Beamish. The Canadian viola player, Sarah McCabe, has the work by the Sri Lankan composer and conductor, Dinuk Wijeratne, resident in Canada.
