Gustav Schreck: Sonata in F major for oboe and piano, Op. 13 / Carl Nielsen: Two Fantasy Pieces for oboe and piano, Op. 2 / Henri Dutilleux: Sonata for oboe and piano / Marina Dranishnikova: Poem for oboe i piano.
The oboe is one of the oldest of musical instruments, the successor to the shawm. It has perfect tuning and clarity of sound. Music for the oboe begins in the 13th century, but it is in the baroque and classical periods that it takes on its full splendour. For their concert at the Fringe Festival Torroella-l'Estartit, Montserrat Piqué and Joaquim Font have chosen a programme of works from the 19th and 20th centuries with pieces by Gustav Schreck, Carl Nielsen, Henri Dutilleux and Marina Dranishnikova, a Russian composer whose duo is a technical challenge for any oboist.
