Enric Granados: Follet, opera to a libretto by Apel·les Mestres, (concert performance)
Follet is one of a number of operas planned by Enric Granados in the early years of the twentieth century with the aim of creating a new musical genre, the "Teatre Líric Català". Granados wrote Follet in 1901 to a libretto by Apel·les Mestres based on a traditional Breton legend, but the work was not performed until 1903, at a private concert at the Cercle del Liceu in Barcelona, with Granados himself accompanying the singers on the piano. The story is that of a medieval princess who is in love with a poet and refuses to marry the nobleman chosen for her by her father.
This concert performance of Follet forms part of the calendar of events of the Granados Year, 2016.
