Antonio Vivaldi wrote more than 500 concerti, thereby establishing the general format now associated with the genre. In some of the works he exploits the musical resources of a soloist, while in others he contrasts a group of instrumentalists with the full orchestra. Rinaldo Alessandrini, one of the greatest specialists in Italian baroque music, has made a selection of these concerti to perform with his ensemble, Concerto Italiano – another Vivaldi evening at the Torroella Festival.
