The church of St. Genís, the venue for the Torroella Festival concerts for 32 years, will be the setting for this programme of baroque sacred music, with works composed in Central Europe or at the monastery of Montserrat. The choir school of the monastery, which dates from the 13th century, is the leading institution of its kind in Catalonia and is well-known throughout Europe. The concert includes several generations of Montserrat musicians, with music that ranges from the early baroque style of Joan March, born in Arbeca, Lleida province, and a teacher of the great Joan Cererols, to the classicism of Anselm Viola, a native of Torroella.
