Dadan
The taiko is a Japanese drum 1·3 metres in diameter, and the term is used in the West generically for all the differing types of traditional Japanese drum that have played an important part in the culture and religion of the country. Kodo Drummers was founded in 1981, and was one of the first groups to bring Japanese percussion to Western audiences. Theirs is a powerful, vibrant art form, which their spectacular, energetic performances push to the limit. In Torroella they will perform Dadan, which translated means “men playing drums” – a show that stretches the musicians’ physical and technical skills to the limit.
