J.P. Pujol: In festo beati Georgii (For the celebration of Sant Jordi in the Palau de la Generalitat) / J. Cererols : Three Marian Antiphons (For the Devotion of the Virgin of Montserrat) / F. Valls: Motets (For the Liturgy of the Cathedral of Barcelona) / T. Milans: Motets (For the Liturgy of the Cathedral of Girona)

The outstanding feature of this concert is the first performance in modern times of motets by Tomàs Milans i Godayol, (b. Canet de Mar, 1672, d. Girona, 1742). This has been made possible thanks to the second Ernest Lluch Grant for rediscovery of musical heritage, awarded in 2008 to Josep Maria Gregori and Jordi Rifé for their research into the life and works of the composer. Milans held two posts of great importance in the musical establishment of his times. He was director of the Musical Chapel at the Palau de la Comtessa (the Viceroy’s Chapel), and after 1714 he directed the Musical Chapel at Girona Cathedral.
