Philippe Jaroussky, countertenor | Jerôme Ducros, piano | Gautier Capuçon, cello
Works of C. Saint-Saëns, G. Fauré, R. Hahn, I. Albéniz and J. Massenet
If there is one name of a countertenor that has been on everybody's lips these last five years, it is that of Philippe Jaroussky. This exquisite French singer has steadily consolidated a reputation transcending the world of early music. For his first appearance in Catalonia, Jaroussky has chosen a programme of French chansons from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, a mid-point between Romanticism and Modernism. Accompanied by the pianist Jeröme Ducros and the cellist Gautier Capuçon, a regular performer at the Torroella Festival, this concert will be a magnificent opportunity to sample Jaroussky's art, and to experience how the timbre of the countertenor voice deserves a place in repertories outside the strict realm of early music. This concert will not be the first time that Jaroussky has performed this repertory, as it has already appeared on a CD (Opium) that has been acclaimed by the critics. Today the music will come to Torroella with all the elegance and brilliance of a major musician of our times.
