European music from the first half of the 18th century constitutes one of the culminating points of Western culture. Opera, religious works and the first examples of orchestral compositions coexisted side by side, leading to such excellent results as can be heard in the programme of this opening concert of this year's Festival. The Acadèmia 1750, the resident orchestra at our Festival, Will take us on a musical journey, with a variety of operatic, religious and orchestral works written by renowned composers from different European countries. Led by their artístic director, Stefano Demicheli, the Acadèmia 1750 Will be joined by the mezzo-soprano from Girona, Gemma Coma-Alabert, and the oboist born in Amposta, Pepo Domènech. With music composed in Barcelona, Venice, London or Leipzig, tonight's concert Will include such well-known works as the ever-popular Canon and Gigue by Pachelbel, or the Air from Bach's third Orchestral Suite.
