Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio | Agnieszka Duczmal, directora | Alessio Bax, piano
K. Szymanowski: Study in B minor / F. Chopin: Concert n. 2 for piano and orchestra, op. 21 (string orchestra version)/ M. Mússorgski: Paintings from an exhibition (string orchestra version) / W. Kilar: Orawa
“Hats off, gentlemen, a genius!” shouted the critic Robert Schumann after hearing the playing of the Polish pianist, Frédéric Chopin. Both artists were born in the same year, and in tonight's concert Chopin's second piano concerto (first performance, Warsaw, 1830) will serve to celebrate the bicentenary of his birth. The pianist will be Alessio Bax, one of Joaquín Achúcarro's most outstanding students, accompanied by one of the most famous string orchestras active in Europe today. The string orchestra arrangement of Mussorgsky's famous Pictures at an Exhibition will complement the inspired music of Chopin in a concert characterised by the intense expressive power of the works performed.
