R. Schumann: Spanische Liebeslieder, op. 138 / Drei Gedichte, op. 29 / J. Brahms: Liebeslieder (Walzer), op. 52
One of the most intense and passionate relationships between composers to be found in the history of Western music is that which began in 1853 between Robert Schumann and the young Johannes Brahms. In the pages of his Neue Zeitschrift für Musik, Schumann described Brahms as the composer who “would communicate the mysteries of the invisible world in marvellous musical visions”. In addition to the bonds of friendship, Schumann and Brahms shared a profound understanding of the phenomenon of love – the main thematic content and raison d'être of these Romantic choral pieces
