In musicological circles it has been observed that one of the main ingredients of Vivaldi's music is an intense, passionate quality (furore), fundamental to the expressive contents of the composer's output. In furore iustissimae irae is one of Vivaldi's best known motets – a magnificent example of the expressive power with which he can imbue his works. Our soloist tonight, Sandrine Piau, well knows that Vivaldian furore is a manifestation of the great enthusiasm of the composer, and the same enthusiasm characterises the performances of conductor Ottavio Dantone and the Accademia Bizantina, one of Italy's leading period ensembles and one of the most outstanding groups performing early music in present-day Europe
