Strauss: 6 lieder / F. Mompou: Becquerianes / G. Verdi: Aries «Ecco l'orrido campo» and «Ma dall'arido stelo divulsa» (of the opera Un ballo in maschera) / Aries «Mia madre… Piangea cantando» and«Ave Maria» (of the opera Otello) / Aries «Tacea la notte placida» and «Di tale amor che dirsi» (of the opera Il trovatore)

The search for a unitary artistic genre that effectively combines words and music has been one of the most recurrent quests in the history of Western music. In this concert we will be able to hear some of the results of this quest, with examples from the world of song and Verdi's operas. In the first part of the concert we will steep ourselves in the sumptuous lyricism of the music of Richard Strauss, and Mompou's Becquerianes will demonstrate the expressive power of a work characterised by pointillism and brief flashes of colour, depicting in musical terms six texts by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. In the second part of the concert, the great arias for dramatic soprano from Verdi's operas will enable us to appreciate the dramatic art of a soprano who won first prize in the Montserrat Caballé International Competition in the year 2000.
