S. Rakhmaninov: Preludes, op. 23,núm. 2, 5, 6 i 7 / Preludes, op. 32, nº. 1, 3, 5 and 13 / N. Medtner: 6 Fairy Tales, op. 51 / M. Mussorgski: Paintings from an exhibition
Boris Berezovsky, one of the greatest pianists active today, has included in this concert Mussorgsky's famous Pictures from an Exhibition, composed as a sincere tribute on the death of the composer's friend, the architect Victor Hartmann. The music owes its inspiration to the aesthetic impact of an exhibition of Hartmann's drawings and models, and the composer explores a multitude of technical resources and experiments in sound, resulting in one of the most successful works in Russian piano repertoire, notwithstanding the popularity of Ravel's orchestration of 1922. The rest of the concert consists of eight Preludes by the Russian post-romantic composer Rachmaninov, and a piece by Nikolay Medtner, greatly influenced by the expressive qualities present in Schumann and Brahms
