P. Txaikovski: Slavic March, op. 31 / Concert no. 1 for piano and orchestra, op. 23 / Symphony no. 4, op. 36
Tchaikovsky is loved by some and derided by others, but it cannot be denied that he was one of the greatest European post-Romantics. His personal example helped to move Russian music beyond the nationalist movement and confer on it a more cosmopolitan character. He did not, however, easily break free from the traditions of his homeland when displaying his more intimate secrets.
