M. Ohana: Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías / R. Humet: Un vent transparent * / M. Falla: El amor brujo
The matador Ignacio Sánchez Mejías was killed just a year before the poet Federico García Lorca's own tragic death. The news prompted Lorca to write his moving lament, Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías. In his oratorio, Maurice Ohana combines the theme of the absurdity of death with a sincere tribute to Lorca, one of the greatest Andalusian poets of all time. The mystery and passion of the bullfight also symbolise the irrational mystery of Manuel de Falla's El amor brujo, whose performance today features the great cantaora Carmen Linares. So much intense passion, however, will be tempered by the clear, solemn character of the work by Ramon Humet, that will receive its first performance in this concert.
