Traditional songs from the ancient Mandingo empire
The main part of this recital, programmed to coincide with the World Market, will be a selection of traditional Mandinga chants. Mah Damba is one of Mali's most famous singers and has built up a reputation as a griotte to remember. She will be accompanied by Mamaye Kouyate on the ngoni, an instrument of the oud family with four to seven strings, whose present form still shows a great similarity to instruments used in Egypt in the times of the Pharaohs.
