In the old palaces of the present-day Thar desert, the castes of professional Manghaniyar and Langa musicians continue to serve the upper castes who employ little sindhi sipahi herdsmen performers and the rajput castes of old warriors. The musicians are Moslems, but they also sing for Hindus, accompany the daily chants to call for rain, and take part in celebrating births and weddings
